Amenities & Services In The Area

The small town of Tourouvre is approximately five minutes drive from the lake, and offers a wide range of facilities that you may require. There is a small supermarket, where you can find a good selection of things, from baguettes to beer and fresh snails to slippers!  The supermarket also has its own petrol station.  There is also a Post Office, should you want to post your loved one a photograph of your latest catch!

'A pharmacy, bank with cash till, patisserie, tabac, restaurant, doctors, dentist, infirmary, garage, taxi service, altogether - go to make Tourouvre a very  well-serviced little town'.

Tourouvre is a typical French town, where, in the Summer months you will find the locals enjoying their day, sitting outside the bar/cafes, taking in the atmosphere in between their daily chores - in their oh-so relaxed way!

Most of our guests don’t want to leave the lake once they arrive, and only pop out for absolute essentials - maybe it’s the thought that a ‘fat fifty’ may decide to cruise on by, for a ‘boilie buffet’ just at that same time!

Local areas of interest

For any guests who like to get a ‘taste’ of France, along with their fishing holiday, there is a tourist information office located at Mortagne au Perche, which is about twenty minutes drive from the lake, (12kms).

'simply take in the breath-taking scenery discovered on the many
country trails found in the Parc du Perche naturel'

The tourist office has literally hundreds of leaflets for places to visit, and things to do in and around this beautiful area. Maybe you would like to visit the Caves de Normandie (cellars), and sample the Calvados and liquors of the Perche area, or simply take in the breath-taking scenery discovered on the many country trails found in the Parc du Perche naturel. One of the few Center Parcs of France, is located approximately 25kms from the lake. A couple who recently visited La Fonte, decided to combine their holiday – one weeks fishing, and a week at Center Parcs.  Now that’s a good way to keep the missus happy! A day ticket is currently priced at 30 euros (2006). To find out more, visit the Center Parcs website   www.centerparcs.com

Mortagne is larger than Tourouvre, and has a regular market and it’s own cinema, along with bars and restaurants.

Normandy And The Parc Naturel Du Perche

Stunning Normandy countryside.
Stunning Normandy countryside.

Normandy is situated in Northwest France, being Haute-Normandy (top of Normandy) and Basse-Normandy (bottom of Normandy).  Basse-Normandy is situated above the Loire valley and Brittany. On June 6th, 1944, Normandy made its mark in History and became the battleground to the greatest military operation of all time.

With its golden prairies, cool wooded valleys, and beech and pine forests, Normandy is a haven of peace and tranquillity.  lts little villages, leafy lanes and clear streams are the ideal setting in which to rediscover the joys of nature. Normandy enjoys 600kms of coastline, 7,500 rambler’s paths, 200 museums and 50 abbeys and cathedrals; and has over 14000kms of rivers!

'Normandy is a haven of peace and tranquillity'

The historic province of Perche strikes you immediately by it’s gentle landscape of verdant hills and lush meadows.  The Parc naturel du Perche covers 182,000 hectares, and it’s rural territory is protected to recognize and maintain it’s natural and cultural inheritance. Numerous forests and sloping woodlands surround natural valleys, hosting old Manors, castles and abbeys, setting the backdrop to beautiful lakes and rivers.

A French regional nature reserve has the role to protect and emphasize rural areas that are of great richness.  The essential missions of a park are to safeguard it’s inheritance, to contribute to the regional planning, and give good reception to the public.  LA FONTE is in the heart of the Parc du Perche, approximately 138kms from Paris, 80kms from Le Mans - home of the famous ’24 hour Le Mans’, and 120kms from Caen and Rouen.
