Before scheduling a stocking programme, the lake was test fished 2-3 times during the winter - late December 2005 and January of 2006. The original fish stock revealed Carp of between 30-40lbs. A decision was taken to continue with a stocking programme to ensure that the ‘catching’ potential was maximised - proportionate to 30lb 40lb and 50lb fish. The previous owners introduced over 4 tons of fish (as at November – ’06). The rigorous stocking included Carp 15lbs to 36lbs, mixed high 40s, and some awesome 50lbs! A couple of Catfish of 39lbs and 49lbs were also introduced.. A strong regard is held for the well being and health of our fish, and so, a recognized feeding regime is applied, in order that our fish continue to thrive. One reflection of this is the fact that we do not allow the use of particle baits.
'Registered as a ‘Pisciculturist’ (Fish farmer) in France, we have access to large amounts of grade ‘A’, first class fish, of substantial size and weight'.

Carp
A carp is any of various freshwater fish of the family Cyprinidae. Originally from Asia, carp were introduced to England from western Europe during the 13th century. Archives show La fonte was heavily stocked in 1994, with Carp from 10 to 40lbs, (they are probably Great Great Grandparents now!), but despite this stocking, the lake had never before been seriously fished for Carp.
‘To enhance this, we have introduced over 4 tons of fish (up to November - 06), including some very pretty fully scaled Carp, from 15lbs to 36lbs, mixed high 40lbs, and some awesome 50lbs!’
The Carp are particularly beautiful from this area, and it was such a pleasure to see them enter La Fonte. Taking all into account, it’s certain to ensure, that our guests experience some severe rod-bending action!’

Catfish
The Freshwater Catfish has a short first dorsal fin and an eel-like tail. The second dorsal fin originates above the middle of the body. The first dorsal fin and pectoral fins are each preceded by a sharp serrated spine.
This fish is brown to olive green, reddish or even purplish above, and pale below. Juveniles have dark brown to black mottling.
